380 balls of Shetland Wool from Jamieson and Smith arrived this week at the Twisted Purl. We unpacked excited to feel this far away wool. It lay askew on the hickory floor, a DK paint palette alive with the North Sea winds.
Fair Isle patterns have been running through my head. A group of women have decided to come together on Thursdays to explore the art of fair isle. We have chosen patterns from “A Shetlander’s Fair Isle Graph Book”, a beautiful book filled with patterns from the knitters of the Shetlands in the first half of the 20th century. We are going to knit a pillow. Next week we put yarn to needle and begin the process of painting in the colours of the Shetlands. If you would like to join us in this exploration contact us at the shop.
The art of the Super Chunky is on the menu this week as well. Phildar Big and Super Chunky from Sirdar have arrived. These yarns are perfect for rugs, pillows, and blankets. With 25mm needles or just your fingers you can create amazing household fun.

DSC_0513(1)     As I write, the snow that remains on the roof drips down icicles and the birds have begun to sing again. I am working through the seed catalogues dreaming my garden and knitting. I just about finished my Booga Bag, a fun project with Noro rainbow wool. Check out the pattern.
This week, the hat is coming from Gabbie.
Here’s to having a “colourful” week.

Crochet-hat-This week’s hat is the “Puff Stitch Beanie” by Krista Cagle. The pattern is available for free here: Puff Stitch Beanie Pattern.

Gabbie has done it in the Diamond Luxury’s “Lambswool & Cotton”. This makes it a very breathable hat that would be great, right into the spring. She also added one of the faux fur pom poms from Wild Wild Wool. This hat took 1 & 1/4 balls. The colours available in store are pictured below, and can be purchased for $10.95 each.
