When the nights cool down and the morning light filters in just before 7am, it’s time to sharpen your knitting needles for soft alpaca sweaters and warm wool scarves as they are perfect for the cooler times.
Today it is raining for real and the leaves and grass are green for just a few more weeks. At the Twisted Purl we have begun our Autumn classes and those learning to knit for the first time have begun to discover the magic of knit and purl.
Picking projects for winter knitting is a fun job. For those people on the internet there are thousands of places to look for inspiration. My go-to places are Ravelry.com, brooklyntweed.com, rowanyarns.com and the many booklets and books that I have collected over the years. Second hand book stores can often be a good source for patterns as well. Etsy is another place that is abound with ideas and patterns. At the store we have a lot of resources, come on in and explore with us. Check the books and booklets or have one of us help you explore the internet.
The simple free pattern of the week is knitted with Rowan Big Wool or Wool Silk. The pattern is in the latest Rowan magazine, and we have fallen in love with it here at the store.
May your longer nights be filled with warmth and love and the light of the shorter days bring inspiration for those sharpened knitting needles.
