This summer I have promised myself that I will wear linen or cotton short sleeved tops I have knitted. I want to be able to slip the tops on with a pair of jag shorts or capris from the Boutique next door, and enjoy being in the summer heat of the Okanagan. I will also have knitted a couple of silk, or cotton linen shawls that I can drape over my shoulders when the sun goes down. I have a pattern for a summer dress and the thought of a skirt in cotton or linen sounds really good.

This morning The Twisted Purl girls have ordered doughnuts from Ratio cafe in Vernon and they are going to be knitting toe up socks in Noro Silk garden sock yarn. Carol knits socks with two circular needles while the rest of us enjoy DPN’s (Double Pointed Needles). The cast on for toe up socks is done with Judy’s Magic Cast On, and once that is mastered the rest is easy. Learning the Brioche stitch is next on our learning adventure. There is no end to the possibilities with knitting

Spring has really begun. The morning air is filled with the singing of birds and yesterday as I swept the back deck, Steve found a salamander in the stairwell just out of hibernation. The deer have nibbled off the left over brussel sprouts, onions and kale in the garden and I have begun to plant seeds in the greenhouse.

I am so looking forward to knitting in my chair on the front porch with a glass of cold Pinot Gris from Grey Monk Winery and being warm with only flip flops on. Spring and Summer in the Okanagan, a perfect time for knitting.

Have a great week,

Kathleen

Two Toques by Sylvia Olsen

This week’s hat of the 52 Hat series is one of the Two Toques from Sylvia Olsen’s book “Knitting Stories”. She speaks about how there is nothing more Canadian than a toque. While although she suggests Brooklyn Tweed’s- Shelter, we found a perfect match in the store, a 2-ply yarn from Custom Woolen Mills, the Mule Spinner. A truly Canadian yarn for a perfectly Canadian toque.

You can find Sylvia’s book in the store, if you want to go strait to the pattern, you can find it here on Ravelry : Two Toques Pattern
